Mark your calendars for May 2019! The iconic Nueva Andalucía bullring is being brought back to life as the Marbella Arena and is being regenerated as an exciting new concert venue.
The new Marbella Arena is expected to be the largest multifunction entertainment arena on the Costa del Sol and will have the capacity to accommodate 5,000 people. As well as the concert area, expect a plethora of leisure offerings including restaurants, shops and sprawling terraces. Concert goers do not need to worry about the rare rainy days because the arena will have a cover to protect against the elements.
The project is being brought to life by Grupo Teatro Goya, who are investing 30 million euros into this huge project. The Marbella Arena has signed a contract with the global events company and is committed to bringing national and international entertainers to the venue once it has opened. With around 50 major cultural, sporting and corporate events planned already, it is set to become the most exciting venue on the Costa del Sol.
However, the Marbella Arena is not the only place to listen to live music concerts.
Check out Sohail Castle, located on a small, isolated hill by the sea just a few minutes walk from the sandy beaches of Fuengirola. The castle is considered a privileged outlook point with spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Sierra de Mijas Mountains. It is where people can both rediscover history and attend a variety of cultural events. Visit the annually held Medieval Market, where you can go back in time and enjoy some traditional workshops for pottery, bread, leather, toys and much more.
Start saving your energy for summertime music festivals too! Just an hours drive from Marbella and you reach the MTV Presents Gibraltar Calling, an annual pop music festival held on “The Rock”. Dance your feet off while well-known artists entertain you.
Back to Marbella and another excellent festival worth checking out is Starlite. This year Starlite Festival 2019 will run from 11th July to 24th August and will be held in the Cantera de Nagüeles, in Marbella, with the spectacular backdrop of the “La Concha” mountain. This festival is considered a place where music, culture and gastronomy blend together to bring joy to Marbella for the whole month. The natural outdoor setting of this festival is an intimate space, which attracts political figures, intellectuals, athletes and celebrities. These concerts are performed for only 2,000 people. Plus, this year it will host the incredible artist Sting, among many others!
If you feel hungry for some live music, the lively Costa del Sol has plenty of options for you.
